Corning Optical Fiber Selected for Faroe Island Submarine Cable Project
Posted on 05.09.07

Corning Incorporated has announced that Corning optical fiber has been specified for the submarine cable that will be supplied to Faroese Telecom for the SHEFA-2 network.

This network will be separated into three main links that will connect the Faroe, Shetland and Orkney Islands and the mainland of Scotland. The direct link between the islands of Faroe and Shetland (approx. 400 kms) is the core challenge of the system design. The requirements included the capability to transmit up to 19×10 Gb/s on a single fiber pair without using remote optical pumped amplifiers.
